Hard work that is.
Perhaps it's not as much "hard work" as pvping. But, why feel threatened, pissed off or any other negative emotion as to why others have chosen their preferred way of playing?

Hm, as a dedicated PvE player that's become bored (thank you very much bland, oppressive WoC quests), yet has not made any leap to PvP, I'll bite.

First, I couldn't care less what PvP players, or even other PvE players, think of PvE vs. PvP. Properly done, I'd do both. GW2's WvW is interesting to me.

That said, it's not simply the formats that keep me from PvP, or the players themselves. It has a lot to do with the skills. When I spend half an hour pouring over my library, all the pros, cons and counters, I step up to meet people with bars that fall somewhere between "ABC, D as needed" and "trolololol".

The last time I checked, JQ is killed for me since monks can do-all (RoJ-sweep, speed shout turtles, heal, prot, clean, tank, you name it) and DoT. There's nothing like needing to be constantly moving and there being a wealth of skills available to quickly, cheaply slap onto players, then watch them die frustrating deaths.

In general, I feel hexes require little to no skill to use. You read what the skill does, you check what a player is doing, and if it will make their job difficult, you press the button and let them deal with it. This is made mind-numbing by the fact that it's very difficult to remove hexes, unlike conditions. I can react to attackers, spells, interrupts and what-not, but there is a wall of icons in the corner of my screen that tells me I'm basically screwed. Yes, with enough experience, I would learn to adapt, but this is such cheap game play that it's not fun.

Then there is the discrimination. The dervish update was a PvP disaster. What's my incentive to struggle with a warrior? I don't even melee, it's just a big turn-off when you have no confidence in skill-balancing. PvE has the same problem, so this frustration would carry over.

Some words about AB: you don't control the outcome, and there's only so much your team of four can do. This is the only other format I've really played, and in my experience comes down to either how well people listen, how experienced your party is and the luck of team match-ups. Yes, your team is chosen, but most AB people randomly invite anyone just to fill them up. As far as strategy, I really don't understand that, either. Everyone follows the party leader, and he/she actually tends to avoid PvP encounters in favor of capping.

PvE is as difficult as I make it. PvP is as difficult as developers and other players make it.

PVP is dead for a reason...actually a lot of reasons
Trying to persuade with threads like this that the gw community did wrong for rejecting pvp style of play is at least stupid...

if pvpers understand it and solve their issues soon enough, in gw2 they might have more chances...till then rest in peace...

Are you speaking generally or in GW1? CoD and Battlefield didn't sell millions of copies for their awesome campaigns. They sold for the multiplayer/PvP aspect. WoW branched out and took PvP more and more seriously, ArenaNET is trying to sell GW2 PvP as an e-sport, many games feature open-world PvP and others feature PvP zones.

As for PvErs trying PvP - go for it in AB/JQ/FA - not the greatest modes once you get experienced and proficient at pvp but they can be pretty fun. As for elitist attitudes of PvPers - you can ignore it as most are just talking out of their asses and looking to pick a fight for the sake of fighting/trolling.

As for other modes: I don't see the point in getting involved in GvG or HA to any significant degree. Or Codex for that matter. Just stick with the more light-hearted not-so-competitive PvP and keep your mind open for GW2 and any other game you might play.

PvP is exciting, thrilling and fun if you play against people of similar skill level. I don't see how anyone could possible say 'PvP is boring' and turn around and say PvE is 'better'. You may not find PvP as fun but boring just makes you seem like an elitist or someone who's upset/threatened.

GW PvP was like a rich dark lager that was bought out by Budweiser when NF rolled around. I didn't like the water Anet put in my beer so I left.

This should be the end of the 5 page derail. Can we either have something productive or close the shithouse that this thread has become?

Firstly considering skill level, I'm sorry but the PvPr's will always outclass PvE players, that's just the way it works. Good PvP players are extremely adaptable to any situation, and run efficient builds. Good PvE players have a guild and the same build running around pulling stuff and casting shadow form.

GW pvp isn't what it used to be in prophecies. I really don't know the exact reason it's dying down, maybe it's just too old, maybe we need something new, who knows.

HA was fun for a long time, GvG got boring when all the gimmicks came and forced me to play a certain build instead of an adaptable build, if you want gimmicks go play HA.

The solution for a dying game? Guild wars 2.

Our guild has recently started high-end PVP. Fortunately we have someone experience in GVG and HA. But we still lose more than win.

GVG requires more tactics. And I found it harder (game-play-wise). Also, reward sux! Strongbox doesn't drop unless with a minimum rank between the two. So it only drop in an "unfair" game, what a BS.....

HA is more straight forward, mostly kill kill and kill but not much newbie group like us because of the rank system. So not easy either.

Give us TA back.

point taken! short of an overhaul, there's nothing else ANET can do. Only the player base can create a "better" scheme within the existing contraints of the system.

HA PUGS side note...

I've said this many times, but it seems to just fall upon deaf ears. By far most of the people that are forming PuG groups there are doing so because no one wants to play with them; people in the PvP community actively avoid them. I am rank 10, I can get into these groups based on my rank, but I never do; I already know that I do not want to play with those groups.
You sir, are in an entirely different class than I am. You (r10) HAVE the opportunity to join a PUG but choose not to (I do not question your reasons). That "luxury" of being chosen on a PUG is afforded to those that have "earned" the "luxury". Those that haven't "earned" it (like myself @ r2) don't "deserve" the "luxury" of being chosen on a PUG. It's kind of like that getting a job analogy. If you don't meet the minium requirements (credentials), you won't even get the interview - unless someone on the inside knows you...

Very well.

I'm working on something kind of related to this; hopefully it'll be done sometime soon.
